And also the first photograph of the year.

I almost said, start as you mean to go on, but although I hope to go on photographing beautiful places in beautiful light, I mean to go on taking pictures of things that catch my eye whether the sun is shining on them or not.

I'm glad to have taken some pictures today - I was beginning to wonder how long it would be - but this isn't my favourite of them (I prefer this one.) It isn't even my favourite of today's pictures of the cathedral.

It wasn't a long walk - out to Shincliffe round by Neville's Cross, between the colleges and through Houghall woods; lunch at the Seven Stars (recommended) and back along the river.

Since any route home from the river must end with a solid climb, we fell back in through the front door feeling very well walked - and by the time [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler had made a pot of tea, the rain had set in seriously. Virtue triumphant.

What beautiful photos! You take the best pictures. J and I have been wanting to go to the Seven Stars; what did you think of it?

I've been working all weekend, every so often looking mournfully out of the window at the blue sky. I have no one to blame but myself, of course. You inspire me, with your talks of walks, to take more time outside myself, even if I have to carve it out of solid granite.

Oh, thank you.

I'd really recommend the Seven Stars. They were busy yesterday, because it's somewhere students take their parents, but the service was friendly and efficient, the food was good - and interesting, which is often not the case with Sunday lunch menus - and the price very reasonable. (We ate in the bar, but I'd go back to the restaurant).

It used to be a favourite of ours, years ago, but after a couple of bad experiences (they had become very off-hand) we stopped going (this was about the time the Pump Room opened, which helped). I think they've changed hands at least once since then, though.

Might you have time for coffee, some time this week?

This week is shot, I'm afraid, due to the fact that I'll be in London from Thursday - Saturday and need to work around that. But I'll be going to Kensington Palace to see the pretty pretty dresses; I've been wanting to go for *years*.

Next week looks good for me. How about you?

That sounds like a great excursion - I look forward to hearing about it.

And yes, I'm sure we can arrange something for next week.

Hey, coffee icon!

Wednesday and Friday are probably best for me, though if something else suits you better, it may be possible - how about you?

Friday sounds good to me. What time? And where would you like? Did you want to try the breakfast at the Continental Cafe?
