The machines stop
Jul. 13th, 2006 08:39 pmOn Tuesday morning I couldn't connect to the internet, and after I'd rebooted my computer a couple of times went to consult
durham_rambler, to discover that he couldn't either: the fault was not in my machine, but in the power supply. Once he had spent the morning driving to Tyneside to hunt down a new power supply, we were back online.
While he was out, the courrier delivered my "new" computer, returned from the supplier's repair service and allegedly repaired. The attached docket claimed that the repair had been effected by replacing the modem and cpu. Since the fault we had detected was in the memory, this wasn't promising - and sure enough, the machine is still displaying all the same problems. We spent the afternoon composing a stiff letter to the supplier, and the computer is now back in its large box, awaiting collection by the courrier tomorrow.
And my watch has stopped. More to the point, it has taken to stopping unexpectedly, and then starting again and running smoothly until I forget that it is not to be relied on - then it stops again.
That's three. Could things start working again, now, please?
