Hole in the ground
Jan. 31st, 2014 03:41 pmDurham is having a holes in the ground fest at the moment. As well as the massive hole dug by the gas company, there is a new little hole in front of the entrance to the covered market. This,
durham_rambler explains, is part of the scheme to erect a memorial to the DLI in the Market Place. Before the Council can decide exactly where the statue should go, "Trial holes to determine precise ground conditions, including underground utilities," must be dug.
You might think that since Market Place has, within the last decade, been radically remodelled, including complete repaving, the Council would now have a map of what is where below the surface. Apparently not, which is why the hole is crossed by a substantial pipe, and the pipe has a neat hole in it, as if someone had hit it with a pickaxe.
Ah, well, try again...
