A rainy day in Sunnyvale

desperance and the boys. Mac has taken charge:
and Barry is looking increasingly nervous.
We had the tour of the house, the yard (it's a garden! with a lawn and an orange tree and a vegetable bed! And why is it that I can take an orange tree in my stride, but find the idea of windfall oranges so extraordinary?) and the clubhouse. We herded the boys (all three of them) into the study, and stayed out of he way of the maids. (Is this another of those linguistic differences? This, to me, is a cleaning service, and I find it quite hard to talk about 'the maids' without thinking of Jean Genet.)
When they had departed, leaving everything clean behind them (including a handful of well-polished cherry tomatoes) we went downtown for lunch and a bookshop - and then home again, and preparing dinner, and a glass of wine, and the return ofklwilliams, and like that. A sociable evening, and plans for more. Today we pick up a rental car, and there may be exploring.
