[livejournal.com profile] lamentables got us all telling jokes - wonderful, lame Q&A type jokes, like "What's brown and sticky?". And then I was talking to my brother, from whom I have, over the years, learned most of my favourite jokes, and he had a new one:

Q: Why do sea-gulls fly over the sea?
A: Because if they flew over the bay, they'd be bay-gulls. (No? Try reading it out loud.)

I have a small but cherished collection of jokes like these, in the category of "pleasantries one may safely tell small children."

Here's another couple for you. :-)

Q: What lies on the bottom of the ocean and shakes?
A: A nervous wreck.

Q: Why don't cannibals eat clowns?
A. Because they taste funny!

The nervous wreck is an old friend; I remember a group of us at school translating it into Latin.

Hadn't heard the cannibal joke, though.

And do you know what's green and hairy and goes up and down, up and down?
