Information overload
Oct. 12th, 2006 06:32 pmWhere do I start? It was an excellent holiday, full of new and interesting things, and there are many, many photographs - almost 500, not all of which will be posted to Flickr (because there are limits, even for me). I have already uploaded the first batch of pictures from Budapest, and in due course there will also be pictures from Romania.
There will probably be words as well: I found that I was suffering LJ deprivation, composing posts in my head, and while I didn't go as far as writing them out, I did make notes. These are not coherent - let alone comprehensive - essays about The State of Romania Today, or even What I Did On My Holidays. If anything, they are just another set of snapshots: I was constantly frustrated at the things I was unable to photograph (yes, I know, 500 photos ought to be enough for anyone), whether because we were driving past on the sort of roads on which it was not possible to stop, or simply because I am self-conscious about photographing innocent bystanders, and the details of their lives.
There's no reason why I should feel obliged to post about The State of Romania Today, of course, so it's a sign of how fascinating and baffling and surprising I found the country (it's tempting to qualify that, because the different regions were so very different, but no, it's still one country) that I find myself apologising for not doing so. Well, we'll see how much of the notebook makes it into this journal. (And I'll try to remember to tag the entries, but no promises).
Meanwhile, we arrive home in mid-LitFest, so it's out tonight to a book launch. I've dipped into my f-page, but if there's anything I should know, please tell me...
ETA: Pictures from Romania now beginning to appear.
