Against all precedent, my morning was brightened by an item on the Today programme.

Not only has a new prize been announced, which will give serious money each year to an artist to create a work somewhere in the UK that is free for the public to visit, the first award goes to Andy Goldsworthy.

... a sea of stones that have been displaced by burials

When we buried Autolycus, we built his cairn of the stones that came up in the digging. (It's New England, so the stones we have added on each visit since have just been lying around.) I like the idea of this artwork a lot.

We went to see his last exhibition in Edinburgh during the festival last year. It contained a lot of things we had not seen before, and also some retrospectives of his work over the last few years. All of them were interesting and most of them were beautiful.

It was over two floors with the older works downstairs. If we had realised how much was downstairs (many many photos of physical exhibits such as leaves and icicles) we would have spent a bit less time in leisurely contemplation of the newer works. We were ushered firmly out of the downstairs exit at closing time!
