A disjointed weekend
Nov. 10th, 2025 05:08 pmThe original plan for the weekend was that D. would stay with us and go to a one-day archaeology conference; the amended plan was that
valydiarosada would accompany him. This would have been fun, but about a week ago,
valydiarosada fell and cracked a bone. Disappointing for us, and worse than that for
valydiarosada: she is recovering well, and scooting around the house with a walking frame - but there's no knowing when she will be able to contemplate tackling the stairs in this house.
It is Christmas Fair season: I had planned to visit Ushaw, whose fair is usually bigger and better than anywhere else, and whose dedication to Christmas decoration is exemplary. But when it came to it, we went instead to a much smaller event organised by a local artists' studio. I didn't buy anything - I wasn't even tempted - but I enjoyed the ceremics display by (I think) potter Ruth Moreland:
As a parish councillor,
durham_rambler is entitled to wear a gown of office and take part in the Remembrance Sunday service and procession. I was surprised at first to learn that he intended to exercise this right, but have grown accustomed to it. I do not, however, accompany him. So he went off on Sunday morning, and I stayed home and tried to set up a YouTube login on my computer (it seemed like a good idea, but after several unsuccessful attempts, I can live without).
