Wordle shot my fox

I may be the last person left still doing Wordle.

Two days ago, I solved it at the second try. This ought to be something to be pleased about, oughtn't it? I entered my usual start word (yes, I have a usual start word) and got four green letters - right letters in right places, only the first letter was wrong. It was easy to see what the initial letter had to be. Triumph!

Yes, but...

In theory, there's no reason not to carry on with the same start word: it's a good combination of common vowels and consonants, it works well for me. I shouldn't feel that it has been used up, that lightning won't strike twice in the same place. But I do.

So I'm using something else, for the time being, and feeling cheated.

I'm still doing Wordle! Took me five today, after a string of several days in a row of getting it in three.

I always crow when it's two -- only happened twice.

Getting it in two by brilliant deduction is worth crowing about; getting it in two by sheer fluke has left me nonplussed.

When I’ve gotten it in 2, it’s been because my first word was close to begin with.

Oh no, I see lots of Wordle scores every day on Facebook. Lots of my friends still play it as does my spouse.

I played wordle just today! After not for a long time.

Back when I was playing often, I would vary my starting word just for fun.

Would you like to one day have your start word be the word they've chosen? I know people for whom that's happened.

Perhaps I should try varying my start word a bit more!

My stats say I did once guess it first time, but I don't remember that! There was one occasion when my first try had no correct letter at all, so I put in my default second choice, and that was the right answer - quite a surprise, as it was a bit of an unlikely word.

I had mixed feelings about that, too!

That happened to me. It was my birthday and I entered BIRTH, which turned out to be that day’s word.

I'm still playing it and I have a usual start word. Also a usual second word unless the start word is especially bountiful. I've gotten four green-or-yellows on the first word, but never four greens, so I haven't had your experience yet. But I hope I would feel pleased (yay, I chose a good start word!) more than cheated -- I hope?
