shewhomustAs the government sends the pound into free fall, we have managed to organise the long-awaited autumn break in Brittany: it must be happening,because we are on our way. Breaking the journey to Portsmouth at the Premier Inn at Leicester Forest East is surely the epitome of unglamorous, and the motorway roars past our window - but it is convenient, and tomorrow night we will be on the ferry from Portsmouth to Saint Malo.
It is five years since we were last in Brittany, which I think is also the last time we were in France. Too long, but there have been reasons.
We drove south in beautiful sunny weather, with glimpses of autumn colours in the trees: I have hopes for good weather, and every intention of having fun regardless. So far the only important thing that I have failed to pack is my reading glasses, so the typing will probably be even worse than usual.
