Talk like a Pirate Queen
Sep. 17th, 2022 05:39 pmSeptember 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
The calendar being what it is, sometimes other things also happen on that day: for example, in 2009, September 19th was Rosh Hashanah, and was therefore observed as Talk Like a Jewish Pirate Day. Fair enough; but in 2018, Talk Like a Jewish Pirate Day fell on an altogether more solemn festival, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, when the observant make amends to those they have wronged in the past year. This, too, was taken in stride (further explanation, and an unmissable graphic).
So on Monday, when the nation comes to a standstill to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, let us also observe a national Talk Like a Pirate Queen Day. Or, if you prefer, sing like one - because there is an entirely appropriate song for the occasion, written by Nancy Kerr durung the 'Elizabethan Sessions' (of course) songwriting project:
Namcy Kerr and James Fagan play Broadside
Some background about the song - and the lyrics.
