Spring in the gardens

On Sunday afternoon we went for a short walk in the Botanic Gardens.
durham_rambler was hoping for cherry blossom - he had seen photos of trees in bloom elsewhere - but here in the north we are not so far advanced. Just one tree showed sparse pink blossoms:
I can't decide whether I prefer that picture, or this one:
Mostly, though, it was daffodil time, with pools of gold spread everywhere under the trees. Soon there will be tulips: there are pots full of spiky leaves, and some of them have buds plump and ready to burst. The glasshouses have reopened. And I got a better look at those new sculptures by the bridge:
When I first saw it, I described the shapes as seed pods, but now I see that two of them are cuckoo pint, lords-and-ladies. I still can't find any information about the sculptures, though.
