On Sunday afternoon we went for a short walk in the Botanic Gardens. [personal profile] durham_rambler was hoping for cherry blossom - he had seen photos of trees in bloom elsewhere - but here in the north we are not so far advanced. Just one tree showed sparse pink blossoms:

The first of the cherry blossom I

I can't decide whether I prefer that picture, or this one:

The first of the cherry blossom II

Mostly, though, it was daffodil time, with pools of gold spread everywhere under the trees. Soon there will be tulips: there are pots full of spiky leaves, and some of them have buds plump and ready to burst. The glasshouses have reopened. And I got a better look at those new sculptures by the bridge:

Guardians of the Bridge

When I first saw it, I described the shapes as seed pods, but now I see that two of them are cuckoo pint, lords-and-ladies. I still can't find any information about the sculptures, though.

That is very pretty cherry blossom. Down south it is magnolia time, as well as time for cherry blossom and daffodils. And now, for your amusement, icy blasts and wintry showers!
