We have a visitor: D. is staying with us for a few days. Which is fun, but distracts me from posting here. And before he arrived we were dashing around trying to get ready to be visited, so that, too.

Yesterday D, and I left [personal profile] durham_rambler to his meetings, and went to the seaside. On our way to our favourite fish and chip shop at Seaton Sluice, we called in at Seaton Delaval Hall, a massive Vanbrugh mansion in the care of the National Trust. Renovation is a work in progress, and I don't know how far it will, in fact, progress, but I like the present status, in which bare walls are a magnificent canvas on which to have fun. The current theme is 'eighteenth century theatrical', but there's something seasonal about the giant bauble:

A bigger bauble

There was a queue at the Harbour View so, not for the first time, we went to the pub instead. Afterwards we went to the Tower Gallery, and I bought cards and D. bought a print - by the person in charge of the gallery, so he was able to tell her how much he liked her work, which is always gratifying.
