Jun. 16th, 2006 09:52 pmOn the computer front:
durham_rambler scraped the files off my new computer, and then set to work running tests, which showed faults in the memory. Since the errors were coming up in both memory cards, he suspected that this was a symptom rather than a cause, but Morgan (the supplier) told him to send back the memory, and they'd send a replacement. We've done that, and the fault persists, so Morgan have conceded that it is indeed a suitable case for treatment, and our next step is to send the whole computer back to them.
So there's a large (as in LARGE) cardboard box downstairs, awaiting collection next Tuesday, and I am back to using the previous computer (the one where you have to close down Paint Shop Pro when you want to run the FTP programme). For a moment this afternoon it looked as if Morgan wouold refuse to boot up long enough for
durham_rambler to delete my files from it, and I would have to change all my passwords (bank accounts, client web sites, even this LJ) but the moment passed. As did the panic when we thought
durham_rambler wasn't going to be able to use my laser printer from his computer downstairs (solved by plugging the printer in: watch this space for me cursing because I can't see why the scanner, which he unplugged to do so, isn't working).
I thought I had written the least interesting post ever about my vegetable woes, but the comments suggest I am not alone. Likewise in my complaints about this particular scheme, it seems, because I've had a circular note about an open evening at Butterby organics, which acknowledges that there hasn't been much variety in the boxes lately, and that there has been too much imported produce, and proposing that next year they will take a break from deliveries from mid-March to mid-June, which time they will spend in the garden planting goodies for the boxes. So we'll see if that helps...
I'm sorry not to be able to go to the open evening, but it's mid-summer, we have committments, which this year we are attempting to meet in a more relaxed manner. So we have rented a house on Lindisfarne for a week, and tomorrow morning we (
durham_rambler and I at this point) are off to Holy Island for the weekend: back on Monday.
