How we celebrate
Mar. 12th, 2021 02:22 pmToday is
durham_rambler's birthday. There's no point in sending him birthday greetings, he doesn't read this.
A year ago, we were just entering the time of lockdowns and cancellations, and I was able to buy him a birthday lunch - though since he was due at County Hall for a meeting, it was a fairly low key affair, at the Garden House. We didn't eat out again until August, and it wasn't what I'd have chosen for our last meal out - except, of course, that for reasons completely unconnected with the pandemic, it was what I'd chosen.
One year on,
durham_rambler's birthday treat is to go to not one but two (virtual) meetings. I have ordered a restaurant meal kit for a special dinner, something I haven't experimented with before, so we'll see how that goes...

Date: 2021-03-13 08:15 pm (UTC)About this time last year, I had decided to celebrate my birthday with a party, since Chaz has his real birthday party and a half-birthday party (July 4, so it's a national holiday that everybody gets off work). My birthday is March 21, so no party for me last year. We did get to go to our favorite sf convention a week earlier, and everybody was careful (though we weren't wearing masks yet). It would have been this weekend, and I'm looking forward to going next year.

Date: 2021-03-14 05:32 pm (UTC)It was a good meal, though not as straightforward to prepare as I had hoped. But we enjoyed marking the day by doing something different!
I'm sorry you missed your birthday party, and the con, two years in a row: I'm trying not to look forward to things right now, because who knows what will be cancelled - but yes, I hope next year is better!
