Five snippets make a lockdown post
May. 29th, 2020 03:39 pm- The bakery who have the stall in the market opposite the cheese stall offer a delivery service. I've hesitated to take them up on this, as it's very much a here's the package, take it or leave it deal, which was unlikely to include my favourite of their specialty loaves ('Donker', which I'd never met before, but here's a recipe, it's dark and chewy but not heavy) and was guaranteed to include white bread, which I never buy. But this week trying it fitted in with my plans, and so far we are enjoying our random breads and pastries.
- Given the don't call us, we'll call you - eventually! message from Ocado, and the number of things that were on the verge of running out, I revisited the possibilities of Sainsbury's, and discovered that while there were no slots for click and collect at the Durham store, they were on offer at Bishop Auckland. So I clicked, and
durham_rambler drove out and collected. - Neighbours last night were asking are we really going to give up applauding? It's a social moment, the five minutes in the week when we see each other: some people were quite keen to carry on, others had no objection. The student household at the end of the run (owned by the same landlord) have started joining in, too. No sign of the students next door to us, who appeared mysteriously earlier this week, sat in the garden all afternoon and have now vanished again. The builders are still at work, though.
- The Dominic Cummings saga just keeps on giving. It's hard to take his statement seriously, but what could he possibly be trying to cover up that is more damaging that this cover-up? I did what I felt like because I felt like it? No, even that makes more sense than these purported reasons. I'd also love to know what advice Durham police gave Mr Cummings senior about security: Well, try not to play in the garden within sight of the public highway; but if you must, keep down the volume of the music; and maybe avoid the tourist honeypots over the Easter weekend...?
- I dreamed the Bears were visiting. I was in bed when they arrived, but GirlBear came in to thank me for her birthday present. I'm not sure what it had been - it may well have been some sort of bathtime goodies, which she likes, and seemed to include a golden ball of some kind. This is not her actual birthday present, and even dreaming I half knew that, thinking that's a present, but not her actual birthday present - and then but if she is here, there will be a problem with the delivery of her birthday present! Which drifted into my waking up enough to realise that there is no problem, because the Bears are not here - but I had been so pleased to see her!
