Tom's birthday observed

It is our habit, when circumstances allow, to mark my father's birthday by visiting Finchale Priory, a short distance from home along the river. Here's the explanation I wrote, the first time I posted about it.
This year, circumstances do not allow, but have a picture anyway:
Today is the centenary of my father's birth. It amused him that his birthday was April 5th, the last day of the financial year: his parents, he would explain, had timed it to benefit from a year's tax relief for a child they had for one day of that year. Is that right, was there such tax relief? Certainly he was able to claim his retirement pension for the year in which he turned 65, despite only actually being 65 for one day of that year.
