It was a beautiful spring morning, and we went to the Farmers' Market. I hadn't left the house since Saturday, and rightly or wrongly I feel better for it.
Before we went out,
durham_rambler was on the phone to a council colleague. She asked him, "Shouldn't you be self-isolating?" and he said maybe, but he was going to the Farmers' Market first. "You're as bad as my mother, she's going to self-isolate after she's had her hair done!" Actually, that sounds to me like a whole other level of unwise, but I've never felt any urgency about getting my hair done (massive understatement): I remember how important it was to
durham_rambler's mother, and I don't judge.
Neither the indoor nor the outdoor market was at full strength, but both were funtioning, and I bought things: panscrubbers, a chicken, eggs, cheese, flapjacks, onions and carrots. And a couple of fancy Scotch eggs from a trader who had been away from the market for a year or so, and was rueful about his choice of date to return. (ETA that the cheese stall, the fishmonger and the bakers, three adjacent shops in the covered market, have got together to offer deliveries, and express willing to add in goods from other market stalls. My favourite greengrocer also delivers, as does Broom House Farm.)
This afternoon I placed an online order for coffee, and bought a television license for the coming year. And made a donation to the Trussel Trust, bevause they are going to need it.
If I were better at planning ahead, I might be more tempted to stockpile. But I'm better at looking at what we have in the house and deciding how to make it into meals, than at starting wih an absolutely blank slate. If this is virtue, it's accidental virtue.

I feel terrible on days when I don't leave the house. If we turn into an official shelter in place situation, I may still have to walk around the block, because otherwise I will climb walls.

Date: 2020-03-20 09:34 am (UTC)I hope you will not be forced to give up going out - but I hope, too, that you won't expose yourself to risk.

Date: 2020-03-20 04:35 pm (UTC)The local one isn't organic, but I might check it out when the dust settles.
And I should order some gin, because stocks are low and Wharf Distillery's is some of the best.
