A time to refrain from embracing

Invisible hands continue to deliver our milk and newspaper; a voice at the far end of a phone has fixed our landline; a less invisible window cleaner called this morning; we have put out the dustbin in the hope that refuse will be collected tomorrow. Some things continue.

Others don't. We had already decided to cry off tonight's pub quiz, whether or not the pub is open. Then we heard from Our Friend the Quizmaster that he and his wife would not be there either (it's the Other Quizmaster's week to ask the questions, and I know nothing of his plans). Another member of the team. the Professor of Theology, tweets that he is self-isolating at home after exposure to the virus; meanwhile his long-awaited new book has arrived in the office. It's Ecclesiasted 1 - 5.
