We didn't go out on Thursday night; we stayed in and watched Rich Hall's film about the cold war. And then I went to bed and listened to the piano music floating up from the installation at Rushford Court (or the County Hospital, as it once was).

But last night the forecasr was better. We planned a route, not too ambitious, and bought pizza, so that we could cook quickly when we returned, and we set off early to see what we could see:

Celestial.Brainstorm

This is Celestial Brainstorm by Amelia Kosminsky. The explanation through the link is possibly more interesting than the installation itself, but it was a pleasant thing to find tucked in among the houses under the viaduct. You can crank it to spin faster, and people did.

From here, we went to Rushford Court, currently the home of John Snow College, which makes it our closest University neighbour. The installation here is Keys of Light, in which volunteer pianists play live, and this drives a light display across the face of the students blocks whose construction we put so much effort into opposing:

Keys of Light

It doesn't look too bad in the dark, with a light show playing across it, does it? But the rain had started to fall, and wasn't showing any sign of stopping.

A study in purple

The Bridge Hotel may have taken umbrage at our failure to come in out of the rain, because as we were edging along the narrow pavement, it tipped a cold shower directly onto my head. I tool this as a sign: we had seen the two installations in our direct neighbourhood, time to go home. So we did.
