Our last-but-one night in France, and we're on the road north. You'd think we'd make an effort to find a hotel full of charm and character, a good restaurant, the works, wouldn't you? Ha! We were driving round the Le Mans ring road with that very intention when we saw a Fasthotel, a pistachio green shoebox, all neon lights, tucked in beside the road; but the sign said "wi-fi gratuit", and we didn't hesitate. Only one problem - we can connect the laptop to the network, but we can't get the network to hook up to the DNS server. The nice young man on reception is equally baffled, but has allowed us to use the hotel's machine. So here I am once again doing battle with an azerty keyboard, while [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler breathes down my neck and helps me track down the punctuation marks!

[If your English accent isn't English you may need to use some imagination here.]
When we enquired about the wi-fi, we pronouced it "why fie" and the receptionist looked baffled for about two seconds, then said Ah, le wee fee which struck me as being rather like a particularly strict Scottish sect. Or maybe something by Terry Pratchett.
