Progress on house repairs is slow. Ridiculously slow, and for once it isn't our fault. We have done all the right things, we have talked to all the right people, and we have nagged them to produce quotes. The insurance company have been very positive, and quite happy for us to accept the quote we preferred even though it was the only one we submitted to them (of three) produced with a degree of professionalism; they also say they will accept our builder's opinion that the original fault (the downpipe becoming detached) is storm damage.

All this is helpful, yet here we are a month down the road, and the downpipe is not yet repaired. We are just lucky that the weather has been comparatively dry, though cold.

And there is scaffolding all the way up the back of the house.

This took longer than it should have, because - we discovered when the scaffolding crew finally turned up - they had made a diversion to scaffold the wrong house first: same street name, same house number, but in Coxhoe, not in the city. It's an address that is known to us, because there was a time when the postman regularly brought us their mail, but that was a while ago...

Anyway, they finally turned up at midday on Wednesday, came back at midday yesterday and completed the job. The downstairs bathroom is very dark, the scaffolding must be blocking the window. We have contacted the builder and told him "Ready when you are!"

Did they actually scaffold the wrong house before they learned of the error?

Yes, they really did.
