Navigating my way past / round / through the group of ladies who chat this morning, I heard a well-modulated voice say "That dreadful man from the Council - got an MBE or something - ought to be shot!"

I think I was intended to hear; she checked later in the changing area, to make sure I'd got the message.

Hm...maybe she wants to be reported to Home Security (surely Durhammers protect themselves by way of armed guards, too, these days? I just walked past a group of three heavily armed soldiers in an allover combat look with machine guns pointing at me to keep me from going into Ding Fring and shop clothes I don't need either in an allover combat look, led on as if on leashes, by two Gendarmes sans armes visibles) to get into the media?

I'm so glad you asked: here's the Mayor's bodyguard (http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/local/northdurham/10923029.Durham_mayor_s_bodyguard_welcomes_new_recruit_Thomas/).

Fierce men with fasces! Well, almost. Maybe, they should wear masks to look even scarier? Also, they could be used to fish out loud women from ponds&pools. I must admit I have a certain weakness for their dresscode. Probably the Mayor tells them what to wear in the morning? In his hat!

But why would she care that you heard? I don't understand.

[livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler spends a lot of time opposing the Council; I suspect I am just a conduit for passing a message to him! (But I'm only guessing).

That was my first guess but I didn't want to say. Maybe, if he can hire those armed men in hats in the link...also, just to (discreetly) say by overposting you on this theme: how I hate women who do that kind of thing; always a sure sign of as low a character as their methods of communication I mean, as in really, utterly despise and avoid like parasites&vermin. I prefer ermine myself, it should be worn on the Mayor uniform, I feel.

I've heard Henig speak and I thought he was rather impressive, actually.

What did you hear him speaking about?

I'm very unhappy with much of the running of the Council, and tend to hold him responsible for it. There's not much about the honours system that surprises me, but I'm mildly surprosed to see the shambles of the County Durham Plan rewarded in this way, for example...

& now for something completely off topic...although only almost; for maybe this should be sent to Durham some time this year and then the women in the pool would have something interesting to talk (lowly or not;) about: http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/14223162.Record_breaking_artwork_makes_first_ever_visit_to_England_for_Battle_of_Hastings_anniversary/?ref=fbshr just saw it on a friend's page who happens to be friends with the artist and this, obviously, immediately made me think of you and matters of Durham...

Not the material I would have expected! It would be interesting to see how it works - but Hastings is a long way away, and the Council has just confirmed its decision to close Durham's art gallery...
