[livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler and I both have colds: manifesting as a painfully sore throat, sudden fits of coughing, and the feeling that my head has been stuffed very dull of cotton wool. Also, in my case, interrupted sleep (for coughing) and a tendency to nod off at other times.

Naturally, this comes at a time when, after not having been to a concert for ages, we are embarking on a sequence of nights out. The first of these was yesterday, and it was the farewell performance of the New Rope String Band, which simplified things, because there was no way either of us was going to miss that! So we braved the fog, and the home game, and Hallowe'en, and went to the Tyne Theatre for the show.

Which was excellent - no surprise there! Lots of familiar routines, and some surprises too, some new since I last saw them and at least one thing which must have been devised for the night, since it involved a guest star (violinist Bradley Creswick, dubbed with a positively Morecambe and Wise type volley of deformations of his name) rising spookily from a coffin-like double bass case. The worst of the coughing was controlled with throat sweets and sips from the water flask, and if it annoyed our neighbours they didn't let on. The audience was as happily riotous as you'd expect. Despite this, I drifted away for parts of the second half, but mostly during video material which I'd seen before. I'm still glas I was there, even if at times it was only in body.

So that's that. The whole existence of the New Rope String Band has been a ten-year bonus, after Joe's death and the end of the Old Rope String Band, and it's been fun, and I wonder what the guys will do next?

Thank you, sweetie!

We have visited a pharmacist, and are taking our medecine, and hoping it will go away soon, for it really isn't fun - but on the scale of what other people have to put up with, nothing serious!

This is because you live with the wrong climate and also the Golf (or is it Gulf in non-Mollberg Speak, maybe) Stream is abandoning those islands you insist on sitting on.
If you lived where the best climate visits Montesquieu's La Brede (it appears it emerges from there like smoke from a chimney pot or a live corpse from a bass violin case btw; this reminds me of more than one evocative scene from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwCYgib1oCY and how someone told me I resemble that bad gal actress while it is, obviously, the other way around: I look like Vivien Leigh and am as saintly) none of this would have happened.
Here,
the sun shines half the time inbetween showers that are donated for vine-growing purposes only by an invisible glove from above and so I only have one cold a year from living here as opposed to a neverending row of'em only intersected by bonkitis and pneumaticks every single year up in Viking Land wherefore it was wrong of my parents to put me out there when I should have been raised in the sun.
However,
music is the best médicine (besides wine&humour)so; for as long as you continue to live in the wrongful North, you must take it regularly for science has long proven its efficiency (of those sound and vision infusions, I mean the other ones are still subject to scientificial dispute, one has to imagine this but I am sure the PTB will find a solution) and now you must get well, vite fait to have some more!
In case you are feeling dull, there is always that club fauteuil waiting...;=))
Anyway, the moment I looked into LJ after days of exhausting home circus performed by the Short People and my local scientist who is not cutting stone all the time, I saw that rare thing pop up: a notify mail from LJ saying how "shewhomust" mentioned you in a post adding do not reply in bold letters so that's why I thought better of it but now I'll leave you to better yourselves and be prepared for more...
I am disappointed in you for not having brought your wine to the concert; you might have tried my method of filling it up in a flask for water drinkers to fool the puritans at the door as I intend to do tonight while listening to the combined efforts of Messrs Leg&Left Lane Cruisers at the Bootleg which is probably no coincidence when Allez les Filles booked them there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjeFItczVkQ with Mr. Leg. I'll bring my hair-growing pills if you take yours!

England doesn't have climate, it has Weather - that's why we talk about it so much. But it's true that as I continue to edit my holiday photos, I look with longing at all that sunshine (and this is not usual for me, for I am a northern person at heart).

Alas, the saddest thing about my sore throat is that wine does not currently tempt me, nor whisky neither - I must be ill!

Of course, I quite forgot about the British Weather although reminded recently by my London correspondante Becky who stated how the (perpetual or annual, something like that) drizzle has now begun and will only stop sometime late next april. Sounds promising!

Oh dear, that is most alarming indeed. No...wine, even? Do get well soonishly, both of you!
