Launching the Liberal manifesto today, Nick Clegg promised to 'add heart to a Conservative government and a brain to a Labour one'.

Which makes him the little old man hiding behind a screen, pretending to be a powerful wizard, doesn't it?

It's not even coincidence, is it? The same thing must have struck anyone who actually knew what he was talking about. Pity that excludes Nick *and* his speechwriters, but there you go.

That is very true. Maybe Vince Cable is the cowardly lion (he's the only one I believe on Lib Dem attempts to mitigate the Tories).

There was a brief moment when Vince Cable was acting leader of the party, and saying all the things a liberal ought to be saying: I assumed at the time he was demob happy. But that was before the entire party blotted its copybook so very comprehensively...
