What's up, LJ?
Oct. 2nd, 2014 10:22 amFor several days*, now, no matter which icon I choose, what I get is my default icon. Is anyone else having the same experience? And does anyone know why?
Meanwhile
durham_rambler reports that his friends' page is appearing in French: I haven't been able to replicate this.
ETA: Helpful comments confirm that I am not alone. This is a known issue, though I didn't spot that when I posted a ticket (linked here, for reference).
They also suggest that editing should give me the userpic I chose. Well, we'll see about that...
*Certainly since my return home, possibly earlier. It took me a while to be certain that yes, I really had selected a different icon, no, I hadn't failed to click where I meant to.

So there you have it, although for some reason I'm not getting the problem.
Their list of 'this issue has been reported' is growing ever longer!
I am getting the French when signing off but not when online as I'm using 'oldstyle' where it doesn't seem to happen.
This is why I actually went over to the dark side on DW some years back now and just come here to respond to friends.
The day they stop 'oldstyle' (which is apparently on the cards)is the day I finally push off.

Date: 2014-10-02 02:27 pm (UTC)That's it, precisely - thanks. But where did you find it? I did have a look in the FAQs before posting a request, and didn't spot this.
I avoid a number of the issues that annoy people on LJ because I have a paid account: I'm happy to pay for the service I use rather than have it funded by advertising. But I too prefer 'oldstyle', and would be irritated to lose that option. Well, we'll cross that one when we come to it.

Date: 2014-10-02 02:32 pm (UTC)It seems certain they will do away with oldstyle eventually although what kind of company does all their beta development on the hoof with paying customers I leave to your imagination!
When that day comes, you'll find me on DW..........

Date: 2014-10-02 02:48 pm (UTC)I do have a DW account (same username as here) but I have a lot of affection for LJ, and would be sorry to leave.

Date: 2014-10-02 02:53 pm (UTC)I like LJ for the people, but they're heading for a situation where they'll leave no choice. Without the loyalist LJ friends, I'd already be gone.
I suspect, given Putin's demands for cyrillic only, that they'll drop none cyrillic users at some time in the not too distant future -have you noticed the sheer amount of help requests in cyrillic now? The owner is a Putin loyalist, apparently.
One can opt into cyrillic, but not out of receiving all the messages and posts in that alphabet.

Date: 2014-10-03 10:31 am (UTC)I know Putin wants cyrillic only so we'll see if Cyrillic services last (for the sake of the Russian opposition I hope they do)!

Date: 2014-10-02 12:16 pm (UTC)That is **too weird** about the pages appearing in French. That seems like an overachieving glitch, that does.

Date: 2014-10-02 12:32 pm (UTC)Yes. I have no idea why; I filed a request with tech support. I recommend your doing the same, so they know how widespread the problem is.

. . . I haven't got that.

They then ask if that answers my question - ro which I have said 'no', with the explanation:
Thanks for the information, but no, it doesn't really answer my question. If it's a known issue, how long has it been known, and what progress are the developers making with resolving it? Can you indicate some sort of time scale?
This isn't a new feature that we are asking for, this is something that used to work and has been broken, and I see that a number of people would like it back. please. What priority is it being given?
Because really, this isn't unreasonable, is it?
PS: I seem to be going for the record number of edits here. Sorry. Wine may be involved.

Date: 2014-10-02 08:19 pm (UTC)Yes; I am one of the people who reported that, although only on other people's journals and not consistently. I said it was not a solution, either.

It's all right! Wine may be a reasonable reaction to this situation.

I received a very rapid response to my follow-up above (http://shewhomust.livejournal.com/447739.html?thread=2180091#t2180091), saying that "This issue appeared just yesterday" (which doesn't exactly match my impression, but perhaps that's whwn people started reporting it) and that "Support does not have information as to when the fix for this issue will be available." But I don't see much benefit in pushing it further (though I'm not closing the request).
Did you have any better response to your report?
