There's still one last day of holiday to write about: no major excursions, but full of small pleasures. And the journey home went smoothly, too. After which -

For some reason I had a bad night on Friday: this happens occasionally, and mostly I can pin it down to eating too richly, or too late, or reacting to something specific that I've eaten. I used to have a digestion of iron, but this is no longer the case - increasing age or side effects of medication, who knows? From time to time I have a night of indigestion and sleeping badly, and then I'm fine - if a bit sleepy - the morning after. This one was worse: indigestion plus feeling sick, and still feeling fragile the morning after (still not one hundred per cent today, but nearly). It's no big deal, and many of the people I know have it much worse, all the time - but I felt particularly affronted. The holidays are over, I'm back home, and this is the welcome I get?

Fragile or no, yesterday was the start of a bank holiday weekend, we'd been away, time to go shopping. I went to check what there was in the freezer and discovered that the rim of frost had gone from around the cabinet; the motor was running but the contents were no longer entirely frozen. This, too, could have been much worse: I had been trying to empty the freezer, so that we could carry out a long overdue defrosting. Well, now I know what happens if you put that off for too long... Is it repairable? Neither of us is inclined to grapple with that question: and if [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler isn't trying to find a mechanic, to patch up the old rather than replace it, then I'm pretty sure the answer must be no, anyway. So we have ordered a replacement, which will be delivered, and the carcase removed, on Friday afternoon. We're going for another chest freezer, but a smaller one - though, irritatingly, it is marginally larger in the two external dimensions where I would really have appreciated it being smaller (height, and distance it will project from the wall).

Meanwhile, we are attempting to use up as much as possible of the contents. J has very kindly agreed to come round after church and help us eat things. I wonder how much I can persuade her to take away with her?

I usually have a night like that after overeating. It's miserable, but relatively short-lived. I am sorry to hear you had an extended version!

Thank you! The mean thing is, I hadn't been overeating - or not since lunchtime, anyway! Despite which, I'm sure you're right, that's all it was!

No-one should wake up feeling fragile. Not ever! (I did that too, this morning.)

Your fragility is one of the things that helps me keep a sense of proportion about mine (but really, it's too kind of you, you shouldn't do it!).

What can I say? I'm a very kind person!!

My fragility this morning turned out to be a fascinating weather change. We had a severe weather warning for overnight and tomorrow. I am very impressed with my body :).

You clearly have a right to feel affronted, neither machines (that cannot be trusted anyway) nor tummies have the right to do this. It´s not polite, it´s not cricket. Tell them off. Hope you are feeling better and that the new freezer has better manners if not dimensions.

I'm hoping for great things from the new freezer: it will be smaller, I'll keep it full, it will require less defrosting (it promises that in the product description, and they never lie, do they?)...

I'm not sure how this post got by me, except maybe it came to me over the weekend and there was a lot going on. See recent posting.

But I hope that all the machinery (yours and otherwise) is now working well?
