Not your usual quiz meme
Nov. 3rd, 2005 11:12 amThe Guardian publishes sample questions from the test new migrants to Britain will have to pass to get a British passport.
The actual practice questions are reasonably tough: Which court uses a jury system, can you be dismissed for joining a trades union, which TWO telephone numbers can you use to call the emergency services, do you need a television licence per set, or does one licence cover all the sets in your home? But they are multiple choice questions, and not impossible.
But the real fun starts with the additional topics, for which the Home Office does not suggest actual questions - just one example, then:
The changing role of women
- Do women have equal rights and has this always been the case?
- Are there as many women in education or work as men?
- Do women get the same pay as men? Do women with children work?
I'd hate to have to answer those with a yes or a no.
I'll suggest one last question, though: do the rules on MP's interests apply to former Home Secretaries?
