Sort of via Mike Jecks on Pinterest - 'sort of' because Pinterest shows you a fascinating picure, but if you want to know more about it, as likely as not you find yourself following a trail of who pinned it from whom within Pinterest, rather than any additional information. But I digress...

In the woods outside Chatillon, Belgium there are hundreds of old, rusting cars left behind by American soldiers from World War II*. Article gives some background, and includes a video made by stitching a collection of wonderful photos together with really irritating transition effects.

Though the second bout of photos states 'The car bodies are mostly stemming from the 1950′s and 1960′s, put and left there as remainders from a close-by US Army base.' It leads me to wonder, then, which war spawned them?

Yup, that's what I was footnoting; and it's a warning not to take the article as totally reliable.

But of course the US presence in Europe continued after the war: think of Elvis (go on, you know you want to!). The surprise is not so much that they were there as that they were withdrawn in such numbers, all at one time.
