I've been doing a piece of translation - subtitling a friend's short SF film, which has been receiving gratifying (and well-deserved) interest from festivals all over continental Europe - and leaning heavily on WordReference.com. It doesn't replace my paper dictionaries - I'm not even sure it updates them - but the discussion forums have threads on all sorts of useful topics. It's reassuring, when you want to know the French for 'paper cut' and can find only an explanation - to cut oneself on a piece of paper - to click through to a forum in which someone is asking whether this is really the best the language can do and being assured that yes, it is. Particularly helpful when you know the individual words, but aren't sure they can be strung together in a particular way.

Another topic didn't actually tell me how to translate 'caller ID withheld', but did point me in the right direction (look at the telecoms companies customer services...)
