[livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler's addiction to Sudoku is such that when The Guardian inadvertently printed the same puzzle two days running, he solved it on both days without noticing. This morning he announced that as he was falling asleep last night, he had realised that the sudoku grid is actually a tesseract, a four-dimensional cube.

It's not quite that simple

In fact, one day the puzzle had me completely stumped, the other day it was hard, but not as hard as some I've solved. It was because I was thinking about why this should be, and whether there were different ways of viewing the same puzzle, some more baffling than others, that led me to thinking about transformations (think: Rubik's cube) and on to the tesseract.
