Fifty, fabulous and festive
Mar. 24th, 2013 04:06 pmThe north-east is missing the worst of the weather: elsewhere there is deep snow and closed roads, but not here. We woke yesterday to a thin layer of snow on the ground, and wondered whether we would be able to go to the evening's party, for all the world as if it were a Christmas party, and not H's 50th. Although the temperature was near freezing all day, there was no more snow, and we went out and enjoyed ourselves. H was indeed fabulous - as she always is, but on this occasion is a serious midnight-blue party frock with sparklies (see what I mean? might as well be Christmas...) and
frumpo was elegant and relaxed. I had good conversations with the people I'd been expecting to see, and the people I'd been hoping to see, and some surprises (the real surprise was the envelope passed to
durham_rambler in settlement of an invoice to a long-distance client whom we see so rarely we hadn't even recognised him up to that point). Absent friends were missed - and much discussed, inevitably - but it was a fine party for all that.
Today is windy, buffeting around the city in a temper, slamming doors. At least March winds are traditional - but I don't like the look of those clouds.

Date: 2013-03-24 06:10 pm (UTC)I'd heard about the recent snows and was worried about you guys (plus Jack and Janet and Mac and Margaret). I'm relieved to hear that the NE isn't as affected.
::sends warming hugs::
