Rain stops play
Sep. 25th, 2012 08:59 pmWe should be on Lindisfarne right now, that was the plan. D. has rented a cottage for a short autumn break, and we were going to drive up this morning, lunch at the Barn and cross as soon as the causeway opened. We would have been there overnight, and returned home tomorrow. But there has been torrential rain, much flooding and many road closures, and it seemed wiser not.
We got as far as the swimming pool this morning, though the road where we usually park was flooded (a little way along from the site of this webcam), and the pool was quieter than usual. But the more we investigated the state of the roads, the worse the news became: the A1 closed in a couple of places, two-hour traffic tailbacks, more rain on the way.
I'm disappointed to be missing a fun excursion. But here at the top of our hill we are safe from the rising waters; we shall have D.'s company tomorrow on his way home; and we shall have fun excursions in a couple of weeks time, when we go walking in Fife (and with luck the rain will have passed over).
