All Purpose Poem For State Occasions

‘The nation rejoices or mourns
As this happy or sombre day dawns.
Our eyes will be wet
As we sit round the set.
Neglecting our flowerbeds and lawns...

The wonderful Wendy Cope, and I won't quote the whole thing, because you have a copy of Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis of your own, don't you? But the last line is":And tonight we shall drink till we're reeling." which sounds good to me.

It’s good that you have only quoted as much as you should under fair use. For the author has written about those who rip off poems (and here as well) without seeking permission. And I for one agree with her.
