A quick one for the record:

At the pool this morning, I was relieved to see a notice saying that in an attempt to satisfy all customers, music will be played Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 2 - 4, and Wednesday and Thursday 9 - 11. That's fine by me; I was ready to adjust my schedule to avoid the music. We stopped by the desk to say how pleased we were they'd resolved this, and was everyone happy now?

Hah! And then I reached the point in the changing rooms where I could hear the music coming through from the pool (don't know the exact time, but eightish, say) - luckily, while still fully dressed, so I could go back to the desk and say, er... And the attendant reacted immediately, and went rushing through to the poolside to tell them to stop it.

Which ought all be fine and dandy. A couple of blokes started with the "we want music", "I'll bring a drum in..." and came and told me that they wanted music, that there was nothing wrong with a little background music and that it wasn't right that the music should be stopped because one person didn't like it*... After which I got paranoid, and kept hearing snatches of conversation and thinking it was about the music; well, OK, the bloke singing "Turn the radio on...", that probably was about the music, but mostly I don't suppose it was. There weren't many students in, and it should have been a pleasant morning to swim, and I'm not as relaxed as I should be...

But with luck the arrangement will work out.

*If only. If the pool management jumped to my say-so, the University wouldn't have exclusive use of four lanes for three hours, five mornings a week.
