Thank you :). I've decided to enjoy the birthday itself for the next two weeks, since today was so very nice.

My 40th birthday fell on a Wednesday: so we had a party at home on the Saturday before, a fancy lunch out on the day itself (and a walk on the Wall after) and a party at my mother's for London friends the Saturday after. I'd certainly recommend that approach!

And yes, I'm getting excited reading your posts about travel plans...
