The Guardian's architecture correspondent writes about the photographs of Frédéric Chaubin who bought an old book of photographs of Soviet architecture, and fell in love. Now he has published his own book of some of the concrete dream palaces of the Soviet era. They have outlived their original purpose, but linger, massive, implausible, like so many wrecked spaceships ( and one ocean-going liner). There's a slideshow, too.

That's fabulous. It reminds me a bit of a series of photos of space-age 1950s bus-shelters in Armenia that I saw in the modern art museum in Helskini (and it turns out I took photos of the photos. Yay, me.)

these are brilliant - thankyou for link. I'm going to look out for the book. P.S. Was it you who posted the link to Ruins of Detroit by Marchand & Meffre? Because that was also fabulous.

I'm glad you liked it.

And no, that wasn't me - though I have seen some wonderful photos of Detroit, somewhere (I wonder where...).
