A week in October

In the last seven days I have:
- which reminds me that it is time to upload the announcement of the winners of the Biscuit Flash Fiction competition...
- attended a sixtieth birthday party, with dancing (morris, but also some that you could join in) and music and school friends (some of whom are still friends, some I see maybe once in five years at parties and one I hadn't seen since school) and cake;
- visited the Musical Museum for a showing of Shall We Dance preceded by an overture on the Mighty Wurlitzer - I must surely have seen Shall We Dance before, but was quite surprised at how broad the comedy was: given a choice between a romantic moment and a pratfall, it went for comedy every time;
- and thereafter walked along the Thames in the late evening light:
- spent a day walking in south London around Belvedere and Abbey Woods and Lesnes Abbey and a pond whose name I don't remember, then back along the Ridgeway (no, not the Ridgeway, it seems to be a walking route along the top of a major sewer, but pleasanter than that sounds) to Plumstead Station (map)
- been to Unity Folk Club and heard much good music
- driven - well, been driven - back to Durham via the Wine Society in Stevenage
- done the month's big supermarket shop
- been visited by D. (twice, or one visit in two halves), with resultant cooking, drinking, talking and crossword
- been to the Lit & Phil for the launch of Peter Bennet's Bobby Bendick's Ride, a piece of spooky Northumberland folklore inspired by Sean O'Brien's story It Follows Therefore (itself transparently indebted to Peter Bennet) and illustrated by Birtley Aris: a beautifully produced and quite hermetic jeu d'esprit
- not done as much work as I hoped - although now that I look at this list, I no longer wonder where the time has gone.
- which reminds me that it is time to upload the announcement of the winners of the Biscuit Flash Fiction competition...
