The freezer is as empty as it's ever going to be - as empty of food, that is, it's much more full of ice than it should be. And tomorrow is Farmers' Market day.

So I have gathered together all the remaining contents into the baskets, swaddled them in a duvet, switched off the freezer and raised the lid. I've also removed all the stray labels from the bottom of the chest (I can just about reach if I stand on tiptoe).

And when I go downstairs I will take a large plastic bowl with me, and see what a little hot water can do...

A hiar dryer helps, and a blunt knife. I had a fridge adn freezer that totally iced up every few months and it took me ten minutes to clear the worst. Just be really careful with them.

That was going to be my suggestion. Except a spoon rather than a knife in my case as I am all too aware of my own clumsiness.

Hm. Spoon - possibly wooden? That'd spare my frozen fingers some pain...

I have a sort of wooden spatula that has proven to be excellent for this task. Though not every house has such a tool so I didn't mention it.

Don't have a hair-dryer. (The one and only advantage of thin hair - it dries).
