Home again
Dec. 28th, 2014 09:04 pmWe left Ely this motning, driving through the fens in bright cold sunshine, wishing we'd had this weather yesterday: we went to the Maid's Head for lunch, but it would have been nice to combine that with a short walk, instead of a dash from the car park to the door, through the rain. Ah, well. There will be other days.
There was no snow lying on the fens, but the A1 ran through snowy landscapes up through the middke of England (from Wittering to the M62, pretty much). We saw the last of the snow as the sun sank behind us in a blaze of flame below the horizon, and after that the sky was streaked with pink until the light finally faded.
No snow in Durham, but a heavy frost. Our road was icy and treacherous, and that wasn't late - we were home about five. It's going to be a cold night.
