durham_rambler has gone to Newcastle for "a night out with the lads" - he and a few ex-colleagues have been in the habit of meeting annually, in the New Year, for a not-work not-Christmas outing. The last one went so well, they thought they could stand meeting twice a year...

He's just phoned home: "I'm in Collingwood Street. Do you know what day it is?"
I don't, but my computer does: "It's Monday June 9th...
"Ah."

Perhaps I should have warned him to look out for busses.

Hyperbolic what?

According to Chambers, hyperbolic is the adjective from 'hyperbole', and hyperbole is a figure of speech: the use exaggeration to create a vivid impression.
