I've just packed up a birthday present for my brother, and written his birthday card. I bought the card while we were on holiday, in a gallery in Stromness; it shows a watercolour sketch of four buddhist monks grouped around a car, pouring tea from a great height, with every sign of satisfaction, all saffron and sunshine yellow. Before I sent it off, I thought I'd see what I could find out about the artist: well, here's a surprise. Plenty of pictures, none of them in the least like my starting point.
Here are two exhibitions from 2006, which I would love to have seen: Tales from the Bird Hide (with a better picture here), a solo show of paintings, and Exquisite Corpse, a collaboration with American jeweller Jen Townsend, taking turns to send each other a fragment of text or image on which to build the next stage of the "story".
This is just silly, though not necessarily in a bad way: The Chocolate Ceremony in the Air placed a chocolate shrine on top of Binkies Brae (more works here).
And finally, this being the internet, a totally unrelated pretty thing which I came across en route: a pagan lady's necklace from the Isle of Man.
