Walter Crane's Garland for May Day 1895

The Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo (click to see larger image)

I wonder if they are by any chance related?

The cover art for the album is credited to Jo Mora, an artist working in California in the first half of the twentieth century (his Wikipedia entry has a fine decorative map by him) - in other words, they used a pre-existing image.

Further than that I can't go - or rather, the search for further information leads into byways I should not be taking time to explore this morning (such as the Digital Librarian's catalogue of online images).

It looks to me like Mora was inspired by/stole from Walter Crane.

I love Walter Crane.

I love Walter Crane.

Me too.

It could be coincidence, though, a female figure framed by a garland... Would Jo Mora have known Crane's work? I'd love to know.

I have my father's swimming and life-saving certificates which would have been issued in the early 1930s by the London County Council. These were designed by Walter Crane and look wonderful.

I am a serious collector of Jo Mora and I have not come across Walter Crane's name. Terry Ahlberg www.jomora.com

Thanks, Terry. I hadn't heard of Jo Mora until I started looking into this, so I've gained something from indulging my curiosity.
