Shadow Gallery update
Sep. 13th, 2007 08:05 pmThe review of Douglas Wolk's Reading Comics, with which I have been wrestling for what feels like a lifetime, has finally been posted to the Shadow Gallery.
The problem wasn't that I didn't like it, because I did. Short version: I didn't agree with everything he said, but it was like a conversation where the disagreements are as interesting as the agreements. (And this is the long version, of course).
But the main substance of the book is a series of essays about different comics, and I always find it difficult to bring together my thoughts about a series of short pieces. I can write about a novel, or I can write about a single poem, but a book of poems - well, that's what always gave me problems.
But I got there in the end, and after trying each and every paragraph in every possible position, I'm reasonably happy with it now: I think it says what I want it to say, and coherently, or almost. (I could be wrong, of course). So that's the log-jam broken, and I can start trying to catch up with the appalling backlog of book diary, not to mention some of the LJ posts I want to do before we go on holiday...
And
samarcand, you can borrow it now, if you like!
