Given my reservations about R. Crumb and about Promethea, make of this what you will: my first reaction to this picture was "If there were a Crumb take on Promethea, that's who she'd be..."
A second look, and it's clear that that's not what's going on; the caption is the lyric of Angel Band:
"Oh come angel band
Come and around me stand
Oh bear me away on your snow white wings
To my immortal home".
So it's about death, of which Crumb, in this drawing at least, takes the cheerful view that those big strong angels sound like his kind of girl. Which is as twisted a twist on the plot as Alan Moore's view that imagination will be the end of the world as we know it (and we'll all feel fine!).
