A kind friend who knows what I like sends a postcard from Canada with a picture of a puffin.

The information on the back reads "The puffin can dive at least 24 metres deep and can hold up to 28 fish in its beak," (though possibly not at the same time).

I picture puffins in training to beat the fish-holding record, gradually moving up from four or five to ten, to twenty... And the disputes: how long do you think they have to hold a fish before it counts as holding it rather than dropping it?

And also, is there a size minimum on the fish? Do they get extra points for holding onto bigger fish, or is strictly quantity over quality? And then there're the doping scandals, wherein a once-proud traditional sport is sullied by a few puffins seduced the commercialism, the fame, the opportunity to appear on Canadian postcards and be seen all over the world...
