I quite disliked X-3, and I say this as someone who really liked the first two. As I viewed it, I found in it a subtext - probably unconscious on the part of the male writers - in which women are consistently disempowered. Or perhaps this only struck me so forcibly because I had recently seen the end of the seventh season of Buffy.
