A spam revolution

This year has brought me something new in the way of spam. Where once the 'sender's name' tended to be garbled, implausible or just plain alphabet soup, I am now receiving a lot of spam which claims to have been sent by people with perfectly normal names. For the record, this is all on one of my mail accounts, and mostly - though not invariably - promoting loyalty bonuses at US shops (despite the account in question being a .co.uk).

Oh, dear. You're supposed to tell him that the Union stands as ever she stood, rock-bottomed and copper-sheathed, one nation indivisible, but I'm not sure we're doing so hot on that front.

I've been getting spam with names that sound real for some time, and I've seen my own name show up as a sender on spam (though with a bogus sender address), so I assume they're harvesting everything they can and mixing and matching.

See, if he'd only chosen to spam someone with a .com or .us address, he'd've stood a much better chance of hearing that!
