We have been making the most of [livejournal.com profile] desperance and [livejournal.com profile] klwilliams's visit to the north east.

Monday being [livejournal.com profile] klwilliams's birthday, they held court at the pub in Whitley Bay, and many and various friends came and went and talked and drank and it was a good evening.

And yesterday they came here, and we sat in those parts of the house that were not full of industrial strength drying machines and - well, mixture as before. Except that we cut dinner short, and went down to the Elm Tree for Quiz Night. [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler and I have been going fairly regularly for several months, joining friends in a very established and successful team, but I had expected to miss this week. I was a little taken aback when things didn't turn out that way, not because it was the wrong decision (as far as I can tell, everyone enjoyed the evening) but because we seem to be even more serious about Quiz Night than I had realised.

On our return home, the whisky (Scapa) and the armagnac and the birthday chocolates appeared, and there was late night talking. So this morning was a quiet time being sociable over the breakfast table and our various newspapers and internets. We resumed dinner at the point where we'd left off, and ate the cheese course for lunch, and then it was time for [livejournal.com profile] desperance and [livejournal.com profile] klwilliams to catch their train to Manchester and Eastercon. Much too short a visit.

This afternoon we had a different kind of visitor, a representative of the house dryers, who inspected progress and declared that both bedrooms are now dry (hooray!) and has taken two of the dryers away with him (also hooray!) The kitchen, which was dampest because it is downstairs, must continue the treatment, and he will return next week. Still, two out of three's not bad.
