In honour of [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler's [divisible by three] birthday yesterday, we divided the day into three: in the morning we shopped; in the afternoon we did our several things at our several computers; and in the evening we dined with friends.

Nothing exceptional about this. The shopping was certazainly beyond our usual Saturday morning grocery shopping: [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler declared that he thought he ought to have a suit, and we bought him one; meanwhile, I took the money-off voucher from the local paper to the shoe shop and bought a pair of shoes. These are not things we do every day. I also failed to buy a tin of my favourite lip balm, which I suspect has been discontinued, or rather, messed about with - it seems only to exist in a mentholated version. I am disproportionately annoyed at this, but on balance it was still a pretty triumphant morning's shopping.

An invitation to dine with F. is always welcome; and it's not unusual for J to offer to give us a lift so that [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler can enjoy a drink. But just at the moment, it's a particular treat to have someone else do the cooking, and to spend an evening not being reminded of all the ways our house is falling apart. As we were waiting for J to arrive, we realised that a strip of lining paper was detatching itself from the ceiling of the sitting room, which had hitherto been the one comparatively presentable room. Oh dear.

On that note, time to switch off the dehumidifiers in the kitchen so I can switch on the oven, and cook for this evening...
